NEXT MEETING - Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at NOON. On Zoom, which is the “New Normal” for our meetings, for now. There may be a new coded invitation to participate - contact SCOTT GROVER or DALE BURMESTER for the info.

This is our Program Meeting for October, and BECKY FRAIRE and SCOTT GROVER, in keeping with our new program philosophy, have come up with an idea, based on one of our Lions’ favorite holiday. This is sufficiently mysterious to require every Lion’s participation, because they have not identified either the Lion or the Holiday. The Editor’s favorite is “Pie Day”, which may be properly celebrated only if you have either your spouse’s favorite pie or one from the Norske Nook on hand. So we can assume that they have something else in mind, but you must Zoom in to find out.

The Madison Evening Lions Club has appealed to neighboring Clubs, including ours, for help in staging a series of virtual game events conducted on Zoom for visually handicapped persons in the area, to help break the feeling of isolation which the current virus plague has brought to many of us. It has hit some people harder if they have already had limitations on what they can do and where they can go, and the Evening Lions are hoping to dispel some of the cabin fever with virtual games. They need prizes for winners, and they have in mind gift cards, for $5 to $25 or thereabouts, which would be easy to distribute, and if from well-known local business, or “all purpose”, would also be easy for a winner to use. They are looking for donations of cards in this general category. This may come up for discussion at one of our meetings, or as a Board of Directors item, but with this info you will at least know what is being discussed. They would surely be interested if you have an appropriate and unique prize to suggest, as well.

Our last meeting was a Board meeting, but as yet there is no record of the proceedings, if there were any. The Editor missed it, due mostly to age-related difficulties, but there has been nothing on the various TV channels or print media to indicate any earth-shaking discussions or decisions, which is probably just as well.

MCLC Lions should visit the Lions Global Forum page on Facebook, conceived and executed by our own Pres. DALE and Club PP and PDG JODI, along with a handful of others. There is a continuous stream of comment and discussion, and some of the posts suggest some major changes in how Lions Clubs, and Lionism in general, may look in the future. The word in the Editor’s vocabulary that keeps coming to mind is “nightmare”, but that is surely not the universal opinion. You will be interested on all the different ideas about the present and future of Lions Clubs that are expressed, so take some time, visit the page, read, consider, and put in your 28 cents’ worth. (Amount adjusted for inflation.)
