NEXT MEETING- Tuesday, Aug 18, at 11:30 AM. On Zoom, which is the “New Normal” for our meetings, at least for now. You can use the old link if you have it, because apparently the number doesn't change, but if you don't have it contact SCOTT GROVER or DALE BURMESTER for the info.

This is our second (on the third Tuesday already) meeting for August, and It is supposed to be a Program Meeting. This time, the Program is the program. We will discuss the meeting structure and content, possibly in two sections: one on what to do now, with all of the upheavals caused by the current virus situation. There may also be some comment on what to do when the “New Normal” eventually appears, provided we are still here when that time comes.

With the much greater numbers of members and attendance, and a fixed location in one of the central city hotels or restaurants, we used to be able to attract well-known people to provide our programs. University Profs., athletic coaches, business notables, political candidates, and such. It helped that we had some of these in our own membership who knew someone who could give an interesting message, regardless of the subject matter.

At the last meeting, there was some discussion about the future of our Program Meeting, usually the one on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. With the type of virtual meeting which we now find necessary, program presentations are bound to be different, and the question is whether we should continue to try to find speakers who are comfortable with “Virtual”, broadcast type meetings or are there any useful alternatives? Obviously, demonstrations are next to impossible and travel films are impossible. Our usual attendance does not supply enough audience to attract a lot of speakers. This subject is going to be revisited this time, and certainly if anyone can come up with some kind of informative/entertaining program that we could have, please let Pres. DALE know.

All who can should participate in this meeting, because the future of our Club is at stake. The virus situation is still evolving, but we need to figure out a way to stay together until it stabilizes. Then, when we find out where we are, we can work on figuring out where we are going. The goal for right now is just to keep ourselves together, and for that, we need to get together, even if only to tell war stories and exchange bad jokes using the modern technology wonders.

“This too shall pass.”
