Next Meeting - Tuesday, June 18, 2019, on the Mezz at Festival Foods, at 11:30 AM. This is our Program Meeting for June. Professor Julie Mares will be our guest and speaker, and the descriptive summary below gives a brief overview. Julie is in the departments of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Population Health. She has long been a member of the McPherson Eye Research Institute and is actively involved in outreach/community education. I hope folks will enjoy hearing from her!

“For the past thirty years, Dr Julie Mares’ research team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, together with several UW ophthalmologists, has, studied relationships of diet and nutritional status to the onset and progression of common age-related eye diseases of age-related cataract, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. She will discuss the types of diets, supplements and lifestyles which the current body of scientific evidence suggests can lower risk for these conditions, and slow their progression.”

At the June 4 business meeting, only seven Lions attended. For those of you who don't regularly attend meetings, you pass up the opportunity to not only find out what MCLC is doing, but the opportunity to help shape that future.

Our Words of Wisdom for the day: “A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.” Nelson Mandela

Old Business: Our Lions Camp is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7th. PHIL has secured a “coach” from Riteway. He moved that the club underwrite the bus fare for guests (Ross seconded) and the motion passed (a generous and thoughtful idea, but probably not correct under Robert's Rules of Orders). Kobussen was more expensive, even using KATIE’s name. We have a total of 21 committed so far (the coach holds 33, so contact PHIL if you wish to take part). Member payment should be made to MCLC (we’ll write one big check to the bus company), amount to be determined. We will depart from either the Dutch Mill park-n-ride … “East” parking lot OR the Eye Bank parking lot. To be determined. WENDI will tell her ophthalmology group about the trip.

New Business: Concerts in the Park (Warner Park). The dates of the concerts are 6/10/2019, 6/172019, 6/24/2019, 7/8/2019, 7/15/2019, and 7/22/2019. LINDA contacted Jim at NESCO, and was given a choice of July 8 or July 15. In responding to a email query, five Lions chose July 15. Details to follow.

Unresolved Board business: Due to attendance (or lack thereof) at our last Board meeting, we were unable to authorize our remaining donations for this fiscal year. This is still unresolved, and time is running out.

WENDI played her Leader Dog video for us. Short, but well worth watching.
