Next Meeting - Tuesday April 16, 2019, on the Mezz at Festival Foods, at 11:30 AM as usual. This is our Program Meeting for April, and the speaker will be Tricia Gundlach, a Madison-Monona Lioness. She will be talking about diabetes and diabetes awareness, an LCI feature point. Diabetes is a miserable affliction that makes everything that might be physically wrong with a person worse, but it is treatable, and the sooner the better. We'll hear more about it, including why you should know more about it, and what is and can be done about it on Tuesday. Probably the most important thing about it is detecting it as soon as possible, because like a lot of other things, the sooner you start the more you can do.

There will be some other things to discuss, particularly Rose Day, now only a few days away. Block off some time on Monday April 22 to help with delivery, and if you have any last-minute sales let SCOTT GROVER know. The hay is pretty much ready for the barn by this time, but we always want to avoid last-second surprises.

The Memorial Service for Past President DALE ST. JOHN was held last Saturday at the chapel at Oakwood East. It was very well attended, and MCLC was represented by PHIL and BETTY INGWELL, DALE MUELLER, TERRY SCHAR and Club Past President JERRY HODDINOTT. In recent years DALE'S hearing and vision difficulties forced him to the sidelines, but he was a loyal and hard-working Lion who served his Club and community very well in lots of ways. The crowd at the service was evidence that he gave a lot of volunteer service to Oakwood as well.

At our last meeting, it was reported that there were 35 Eye Bank Tissue Transports in our area in March, of which our club carried out 8. Our couriers were: BRIGGS, BURMESTER, GROVER (2), INGWELL, JENSON, and David York, filling in for LINDA BERGREN.

WENDI DWYER's new Guide Dog, Lily, was the only guest at the meeting. Since we will likely get many chances to meet her, we need to break some kind of International ground and create a new membership class of some sort for her. “Canine Assistant Lion”, maybe?

The slate of nominations for Club offices was presented as:

A confirming vote will be held at the next meeting.

Our visit to Lions Camp is set for Aug. 7. We have room for up to 25 for a Camp Tour, and so far we have 7 or 8 people planning to go. PHIL INGWELL is making the arrangements, so talk with him and get on the tourwagon. This is the crown jewel of Wisconsin Lionism, and you should visit to see for yourself how good it is for the campers.

Highway Cleanup is scheduled for April 27, and the hardy band could use a couple more helpers. In the past it has not only improved the landscape, the road runs by a golf course and you can replenish your supply with what the crew finds. Contact SCOTT GROVER.

PID PHIL INGWELL made a historic presentation of Melvin Jones Fellowships to PDG JODI BURMESTER and Vice Pres. DALE BURMESTER, in recognition of their dedicated service to Lionism. JODI's is a Progressive (second) Fellowship. This is the highest individual recognition granted by Lions International Foundation upon nomination by their Club. We all salute two of the hardest-working Lions we know. They are great, individually and as a team!
