Next Meeting - Tuesday, September 4, on the Mezz at Festival Foods, at 11:30 AM as usual. The old expression was “The Good Lord willin’, and the cricks don’t rise.” But now the cricks done riz, and so you’ll have to check the current info on what’s flooded and what isn’t before you come.

It is our business meeting for September, and there will be business to discuss. After all of KATIE’s hard work, the Scavenger Hunt was drowned out by the weather, and we have to decide where to go from here. Fortunately, six Hunters were able to go to River Food Pantry, where they spent two-anda-half hours making sandwiches. Good on ’em! There is also another Bags Tournament in the works, we may get International Convention reports, our full-time summer golfers should be off hiatus and come to tell us what they’ve been up to, and we may also get some tidbits from the Council of Governors, if their new leader has gotten them straightened up by now. Fall is full of promise- we just have to sort out the promises.

The fight against Childhood Cancer is a new major area for Lions Clubs International and the LCIF. Our Club is on board for this project, and we may have an announcement on that at our next meeting

Last meeting featured one of those programs that should make you feel good about yourself and hopeful for someone else. New member WENDI DWYER, and her new companion, Leader Dog Mukwa, told us about what it’s like to decide that you need a companion to help you get where you want to go, and how the process works once you start it. Our Club has supported the Leader Dog facility in Michigan financially for years, and we’ve had programs about it and visits from their staff, some of our former members have had guide dogs, other Wisconsin Lions have had Leader Dogs, but this is the first time the editor can recall that one of our own members has received one from Leader Dogs. From all accounts WENDI gave a great program.

Editorial Comment: If you attend a Lions USA/Canada Forum or a Lions International Convention, you are a lot more than just entertained. You learn things that will be useful in other areas of your life, among which is “the cream rises to the top.” Lion leaders don’t get there by accident, and you find that out when you hear their presentations. You get tips on leadership and public speaking. You find out how much good can be done by over a million people working on the same problem, and if you are lucky you experience the feeling of being part of the solution. So, if you ever have the opportunity, attend a Forum and/or an International Convention.
