Next Meeting - Tuesday, June 19, on the Mezz at Festival Foods, at 11:30 AM as usual. Our program meeting for June, and GAIL STIRR will introduce Annika Konrad, PhD, whose talk title will be “Raising Public Awareness About Disability: Discover Your Role in Access”. Annika Konrad studies disability communication, specifically the rhetorical and literate practices of people who are blind and visually impaired. Her goal is to better understand how people learn to communicate about disability. She runs a community-writing project for people who are blind and visually impaired, and volunteers with the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired. She is the managing editor for a blog about blindness and vision impairment called The Outlook From Here (theoutlookfromhere.wordpress.com). Konrad is interested in learning how scientific, humanistic, and social scientific approaches to vision research can be brought into conversation with humanities research.

Our last meeting was all business, and there was a lot of it. The opening Words were “I raise up my voice - not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.” -- Malala Yousafzai. From an incredibly courageous young woman who survived an assassination.

The Summer Bags Tournament will be at Cherokee Country Club on August 4. Registration and fee information is at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2018-summer-bags-tournament-registration-46726859294. Time is 11:00 AM to 6:00PM, possibly with an afterparty to follow. The Tournament has cash prizes, and our Summer Raffle tickets will be sold during the event with the drawing at the end. Raffle prizes include pairs of tickets to a Packer game, UW Badgers Homecoming Game and a Mallards game. Are you selling your share of the tickets?

Scavenger Hunt - August 25 - 8:30am: City-wide scavenger hunt where “stops” key into all our areas of service. Volunteers needed: 6 at River Food Pantry, 2-3 at each of the other stops (2 restaurants, 2 craft stores, Mini of Madison, River Food Pantry, City Park (TBD)). Last group should be arriving at park around or before 2pm. KATIE is working on advertisements.

We are examining the possibility of replacing a vandalized Little Free Library at Carpenter-Ridgeway Park with one or more in the area.

We are also considering holding our Summer Social immediately following the Bags Tournament, in the same space at Cherokee CC. Presumably we will hear more if it can be worked out.
