Next Meeting - Tuesday, May 1, 2018. On the Mezz at Festival Foods, starting at 11:30 AM. This is our Business Meeting for May, and there is a lot to talk about. Results from Rose Day, plans for our Bags Tournament (or maybe two), report on Highway Cleanup, discussion of Lions Goals as set forth by International, our Scavenger Hunt, the State Convention later this week, and who knows what else. If you want to keep current on the lots of things that are going on, you best be there. Besides, your input is needed to complete the picture on some of this stuff.

There were 14 people at our last meeting, a welcome sight after a long, cold winter, including a visitor Lion WENDI DWYER from Chicago. WENDI has submitted an application to join us, and has been blessed by our Board of Directors. The Words of Wisdom were “Time spent among trees is never time wasted.” Which brings to mind the old “God does not deduct from the allotted hours of man the time spent in fishing” wall sign. The TT had an artificial flower-making contest with pipe cleaners and tissue paper, won by the multi-talented LINDA BERGREN.

The Bags Tournament was discussed. A date in June at Cherokee Country Club seems likely.

The bag for the Lion Bank has been returned. All it contained was a ransom note for the Lion. We hope the bagand note were tested for DNA to aid the investigation.

We got a “thank You” from WLF for our Club's donation of $100 in memory of the late Lion PHIL STOWITTS.

Our speaker was Sandra Midtlien from the American Diabetes Association. She has been working with ADA for 2 years now and is “the Madison Staff”. She has twin children - both have Type 1 diabetes, and are 25 years old now. They will need to spend $800 / Month for insulin once insurance runs out.

Type 2 diabetes can happen to anyone - Sandy recently met a 34 year old with type 2 with many complications from type 2 diabetes, including kidney failure, amputation of feet and failing eyesight. ADA is a fundraising organization to help those that have diabetes and need help - not all necessarily financial. Sandy's children were able to go to WI Lions camp - they felt “normal” after going to camp. ADA has a program called “living with diabetes” where they will follow you around for a year and help you eat right and live with diabetes. https://www.diabetesfoodhub.org/
