Next Meeting - July 18, 2017, Tuesday noon, at the Coliseum Bar & Restaurant.

NOTE THAT THERE WILL NOT BE A MEETING ON JULY 4, BECAUSE OF THE HOLIDAY. OUR NEXT MEETNG IS THEREFORE THREE WEEKS AWAY, but we thought we'd issue a Tale anyway so you wouldn't forget us in the interval. Just don't show up at the Coliseum Bar on the next two Tuesdays because there won't be any Lion meetings there.

The next meeting will be reannounced in the next Tale as well, but just to satisfy your curiosity, we are expecting what used to be called “The Annual Visit Of The District Governor”. Apparently there is a change in the works, and perhaps some presentation out of the ordinary, so when we confirm who's coming, it will be announced in the next Tale. This is one of the few times in our history when there will be two Tales in the interval between meetings, rather than three weeks between Tales. Just keep your balance. And your 1st and 3rd Tuesday noons for most months.

Having said that, our Summer Social is set for Aug. 1 at Vitense GolfLand, with the social activities starting at 5:30pm. I f you'd like to play at golf, you'll want to start earlier. Spouses and guests are welcome and encouraged. A chance for sort-of picnic fun with no ants and a nice place to be if it rains. More details later. Seems likely there won't be a noon meeting that day either.

We are, however, having a fundraising event on July 15 - our Summer Bags Tournament. We could use your assistance - lots of tasks to do. Contact KEVIN, DALE, or ADAM for details. Nice to have a fundraiser that doesn't involve selling something.

The Club got a letter from a UW grad student in Occupational Therapy who is “recruiting 55+ seniors who are living independently in the community for a brief (45 min) study involving paper and pencil tasks of memory and thinking. All participants receive $15 cash immediately after the study.” A chance to help out a grad student, make a few bucks (which you could donate to MCLC for our service fund) and “help create a new assessment for getting more Medicare benefits for older adults.” The study is administered in public settings convenient for the participant and is confidential. The letter came from Tim Marks, tsmarks@wisc.edu, office phone 262-2003. You can contact him directly, or let SCOTT GROVER know if you are interested. They are looking for 100 volunteers. (Editor's comment - paper and pencil, no confounding computers, and maybe if you do this it will be further proof you haven't lost it yet.) Not sure exactly what they're aiming for, but the editor is getting more and more familiar with the limitations imposed by aging (by observing his peers, of course), and it seems that the Occupational Therapy people are good at contriving new and easier ways to do the old familiar things, and presumably are looking for ways to finance the spread of this knowledge.

Facebook confirms that our District Governor Elect JODI is deeply immersed in the activities at the International Convention in Chicago and loving every minute of it! When she comes back all charged up, look out, world! One thing we know - she's putting everything she has into being the best DG ever!
