Next Meeting - September 6, Tuesday noon, at the Coliseum Bar & Restaurant, as usual. Our business meeting for the month, and now that Fall has arrived, at least by the common usage calendar, we will be starting to think about things like football and Holiday Treat sales, with a fleeting glance backward to golf and Bags Tournaments. That's why the Lion in our emblem faces two ways.

You all read the Lions International Magazine, surely. Of course you did, cover to cover. So you are prepared to tell the TailTwister at the next meeting which Big Ten mascot had his picture in the last issue. And why. And who in that picture should be particularly happy?

The results for the Bags Tournament are in, per SCOTT GROVER. Facts and figures -
      Raffle sales - $1,970
      50/50 raffle - $133
      Beer Sales - $445
      Donations - $110
Entry Fees - $200 (we haven't transferred the remainder from PayPal yet)
      Total - $2,858

As for volunteers ... KEVIN, DALE, JODI, MIKE, LINDA, David, ADAM, MELISSA, PHIL, BETTY, DEBBIE, Debbie's daughter, Doug, and SCOTT - at least that's who SCOTT can remember. (David and Doug really should become members - they already do the work.) JIM showed up late in the day with the Packers tickets. Outstanding turnout for us! You might check with KEVIN for anyone I missed. KEVIN and his parents made the boards to competition standards. DALE did a lot of work painting the boards. And DALE and JODI had a blast using his new loudspeaker. Interesting fact - the Coliseum donated the beer! There were either 16 or 18 teams.

All of this will probably be discussed at the next meeting, too. Looks like we did really well, and there is still room to grow. Next step is to get some new members out of it as well.

At the last meeting, Pres. MIKE rang the bell, and was promptly presented with a Charter pin (from our sponsorship of the East Club) by Guiding Lion SCOTT GROVER. We were reminded that September is one of our Eye Tissue transporting months. There's a new method of dispatch this time - the duty will be shared by three Lions, our JIM SCHUTZ, and IRV Ehrlich and BRUCE VOIGHT from the other two clubs that share the responsibility this month, so the call may come from any of the three. If you are a transporter, be sure your info is up to date for the dispatchers to use. You won't get a call if your number isn't correct.

1st Vice Dist. Governor JODI and husband DALE recently visited the Leader Dog training center in Michigan. They got the full tour, and it is an impressive operation. A Leader Dog really changes the life of the recipient for the better. Our Club has a long record of support for Leader Dog.

JODI also told us that the new International President, ROBERT E. “BOB” CORLEW will be coming to Wisconsin, at least to Racine and Brookfield , on October 1, as part of a Centennial Bus Tour. There will be an opportunity to meet him at a reception that day, in Brookfield, from 6 to 8 PM. Ticket cost for the event is $15. See JODI for details.

PID PHIL INGWELL introduced our new District Governor, ERIC HOLTHAUS. He gave Pres. MIKE a copy of the new President's Handbook, and noted that there are special Centennial pins for new members this year. We need to give more of those out. One goal is to increase visibility of Lions Clubs in their communities, not an easy thing to do in a city as large as Madison. His theme of “Back To The Future” reflects this - MELVIN JONES started the first Lions Club with the goal of service to its community, and so the idea is to go back to this, with more projects to benefit home communities, and hopefully more visibility as one result. He also thanked us, on behalf of Lions International, for all that we are doing and have done in past years. It is a pretty impressive list, actually, if you look at our history.
