Next Meeting - July 19, Tuesday noon, at the Coliseum Bar & Restaurant, as usual. CRAIG BUTLER is the Program Host, and he will introduce an outstanding program. We will have one, and maybe two, speakers from the Madison Police Department, talking about the current climate the police face, a couple of good things they'd like to share, and of course Q&A. John Patterson and/or Mike Alvarez are the officer's names. If ever there was a program about current and important issues, this is it! Do not miss it - there is a lot going on, and we all need to know as much as possible about it.

As an aside, we are indebted to former Lion Alex Wong, who is also remembered for a few other things, for the term Program Host, designating the Lion who scheduled the Program and will introduce it. We used to limp along with Program Chair for the Day, or Introducer, or whatever. Now we have a title to go with the responsibility.

Pres. MIKE rang the bell for our last (business) meeting, and, the 4th of July being fresh in our minds, Doc STEVENS recited the second sentence of the American Declartion of Independence, to remind us how it all began:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Thus inspired, we proceeded. TT JACK HEIM had been conducting his usual fundraising activities, and whatever was being contested, TRISH LIBERTY was proclaimed the winner. So presumably, having pursued it, she caught some small version of happiness.

She and CHARLIE recently returned from a motor home trip to Arizona, which sounds like fun except that one prime purpose was to help one of their kids move to AZ, so the motor home was part moving van. The spirit of adventure goes hand in hand with LIBERTY.

KEVIN OLSEN reminded us of the upcoming Summer Bags Tournament, which we are conducting at the Coliseum Bar on Saturday, July 30, starting around noon. He has some excellent posters for you to put up, but that's just the beginning- volunteers, about 12 of them, will be needed to pull this off. Last year's initial event was a success that we want to build on, so contact KEVIN to help out. We are assured that no technical knowledge is required.

We were also reminded that Stuff The Bus is coming up on Aug 13. In addition to a place to donate your leftover college spiral notebooks, there will be opportunities to buy a prepacked bag of supplies for $10, or you can pick out your own from a list that will be provided. Of course, the mundane gift of $$ will be welcome, too.

Concert In The Park is Monday, July 18 (TODAY) at 5:30 PM at Warner Park, probably the same day you get this Tale. LINDA BERGREN and Pres. MIKE KNOWLTON will be on hand, and they could use even last-minute help. Just show up and they'll find something useful for you to do. This is a NESCO activity, and we help them out every year.
