Next Meeting, Tuesday, September 15, at the Coliseum Restaurant & Bar, at noon. Our program meeting for the month, and Dr. TOM STEVENS will bring us Dr. Terri Young, MD, MBA, Professor and Chair, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UW. She came to UW from Duke University, has a long list of professional accomplishments, and specializes in research about eye development and growth and genetic eye disorders. It's likely we will hear a lot about what's being done to prevent and/or correct inheritable vision problems.

At our last meeting, Pres. MIKE rang the bell, and eventually it worked! It apparently having been decided that our Holiday Treat should continue, with or without the noble Fruitcake, LINDA BERGREN introduced us to the 2015 Product List, otherwise known as the Order Blank. The list of available nuts is impressive, and since they have a good profit margin, these are good things to sell. Most popular are the Chocolate Coated Almonds and the Giant Malted Milk Balls, but there are lots of others, mixed, salted, berries, trail mix, whatever. Get your orders in ASAP, or sooner, particularly where Fruitcakes are desired, because they may be in limited supply due to the manufacturer's packaging and shipping choices.

LINDA also introduced a guest, Travis Borchert. ADAM GRASSNICKEL also had a guest, Abram Smith, like him a UW student and former Lions Camp(er). We could use more guests- fish around in your acquaintances and find someone who'd like to serve, and then bring them to a meeting to see and hear how we do it.

TailTwister JACK HEIM, for reasons the editor could not discern, decisively proved that he could do 30 pushups and still get to his feet afterwards. There are many of us who couldn't do that, but in his case it probably got a few contributions to the Lion Bank.

It has been said that some people “have eyes in the back of their head”, and the editor noted that KEVIN OLSEN was wearing dark glasses on the back of his. Sort of like a Tailtwister on the prowl.

JACK HEIM announced that our Holiday Party would once again be at the Vintage Pub, on Whitney Way across from Westgate/HyVee, in the John Wayne room. Tuesday, December 15, in the evening, is the appointed time (instead of a noon meeting). If you have menu suggestions/comments, get them to JACK.

Our Fall Highway Clean-Up project is scheduled for Saturday, October 24. Exact time and meeting place to follow. A chance to get out in the fresh air, perform a public service, restock your supply of used golf balls and study human nature, as disclosed by what humans discard. You can probably get additional info from Pres. MIKE KNOWLTON and/or SCOTT GROVER. BYOPT. (Bring Your Own Pickup Tool). Our service work is picking up.

TT JACK HEIM is conducting a Food Drive among our membership. He requests donations of non-perishable food be brought to our next meeting and the two meetings in October.

Business having been concluded, and no more battles with the beer truck reported, MIKE rang the closing bell. See you next Tuesday.
