Next Meeting - Tuesday, October 21, at the Sheraton, at noon. Our speaker will be Dr. Tonghai Yang, creator of the Hometown Education Foundation, and colleague of our President JACK HEIM. The purpose of the foundation is to support education for needy children in Chian, and presumable Dr. Yan will tell us how they go about it. There are huge numbers of people in China, and as it is here, some of the children come from families with less than desirable situations and not enough resources. A little help at that time in life can go a long way.

Breaking news just in - our Madison Central Lions Club website has gone down, taking a lot of our tools with it, at least for the moment. SCOTT GROVER and JACK HEIM have been laboring mightily to fix things, but apparently the strings still ran thru the hands of our late PP CHUCK BASFORD, and his untimely departure has short-circuited almost everything. SCOTT is cobbling together ways to do stuff, and if you are reading this BULLetin electronically you know he has succeeded at least in part.

At our last meeting, the TailTwister was at it again, but a lack of cash flow due to a shortage of Lions caused his change fund to be short, too. Result - WALT PRIDHAM now has a substantial credit balance of prepaid fines/fees/charges with the TT. We hope his memory is good. SCOTT GROVER, who does just about everything, gave the invocation. Ten words, this time. That's two more words than there were Lions present to hear them, which unfortunately may be a new record low. C'mon, you guys!

TOM STEVENS announced that the Capitol Chordsmen had an event coming up the following Saturday. He's been participating in the group, which performs and encourages “Barbershop Quartet” singing, for about a year and has found it enjoyable. He says they are a welcoming group. The Editor has heard them many times over the years and they make good, entertaining, music. Maybe TOM can get us a short serenade sometime. The Christmas season, perhaps?

SCOTT read us an appeal from Second Harvest Food Bank. Among other things, the need not only continues but apparently is still growing, and they can get 30 meals out of a $10.00 USD donation.

We gave an assist to NESCO (eastside senior org) at their annual fundraiser. LINDA BERGREN, her husband David York and the omnipresent SCOTT GROVER helped out.

It was noted that we not only had the American Flag on display for our meeting, but a Wisconsin State Flag as well. Where did that come from?

We're still trying to do the Highway Cleanup, but manpower is a problem. Last count, we needed at least 1 more Lion or guest/family member to pull it off. Search your memory for friends who are golfers and invite them to see Lion service in action, and incidentally to maybe pick up a supply of golf balls. The section we clean runs alongside a golf course for a ways.
