Holiday Greetings!

Next Meeting - Tuesday, January 7, 2014. First meeting of the New Year! We remember, among other things, that in the past, Tailtwisters used to check the Attendance Cards and there were fines levied on members who had not moved with the times. TT JACK might need a mysterious informer to find any such at the next meeting, but there is probably someone who would volunteer to assist in seeing that justice is done to the inexorable passing of time. (JACK, you probably have no way of knowing this, but the Editor is a Past TailTwister. The Editor is past a lot of things.)

Pres. LINDA sends a Happy New Year greeting to all Lions, but she won't be at the meeting to pound the gavel. That responsibility, we are told, will be assumed by PID and PP PHIL INGWELL. Last month we reviewed the projects of 2013, and this month the group will review activities for 2014. What we want to do as a club as far as funding projects that we feel are important. Some things we do with our own hands, some with money, and some with both, and this is a chance to hear about, and, if you wish, comment on, what we're going to do this year and how we're going to do it. (Seven commas in one sentence. Probably a course record. Somewhere a journalism prof is cringing.)

At the last meeting there was a pretty good crowd, and the air was filled with conversation, mostly holiday-related. That didn't change much when Pres. LINDA introduced the program, Pastor Tisha Brown of the Community of Hope Church. She didn't preach, but she did “make a joyful noise unto the Lord with singing”, together with her accompanist and fellow musician, Fritz Schenker. Also present was Channel 3 photojournalist Dannika Lewis, who, it turned out, was doing a short story on Rev. Brown and her music. The theme was drawn from one of her first songs, “Winter Wonderland”. Most of us remembered, and sang, the line about “In the meadow we can build a snowman, and pretend that she is Parson Brown.” That was a neat lead in for the TV story, and many of us were filmed and recorded singing along with “Parson Brown.” Part of one's 15 minutes of fame, I guess. Among others, Pres. LINDA, JIM SCHUTZ, and DALE MUELLER were featured, and the TV folks performed the near-miracle of catching the one phrase in which the editor was reasonably on pitch. “Parson Brown” is a talented performer, and the music which included “Silver Bells,” “It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, “Go Tell It On The Mountain” and “Silent Night,” was appropriate and enjoyable. And Madison Central Lions had a featured part in the story, which ran on Channel 3 during one of their newscasts.

On an unrelated matter, Lions who have a Facebook page and are interested in Madison history, or have been here for a while, will find three pages of interest. Using the Facebook search box, search on “Lost Madison (Wisconsin)”, and “Historic Madison,” and “If you grew up in Madison you remember...” Lots of memories in there, and good history. Who knew that Steve Briggs' family store, Moseley's, was first located on Pinckney St? A lot of us remember it on Mifflin.

Holiday Greetings!
