NO MEETING ON TUESDAY, JULY 2. Our next group function is Save Sight Night at the Mallards on Sunday, July 14, organized by the Madison Evening Lions Club. Gates open at 3:30 PM and the game starts at 5:05 PM. Our understanding is that $25 gets you a Duck Blind Soda package, which includes admission to the Duck Blind area, food until the 5th inning and soda until the 8th inning. Option: for $30 you get beer instead of soda. If you also want a preferred seat in the grandstand with armrest and back, it is $10 additional. Duck Blind tickets (food & drink) must be purchased from the Evening Lions Club at WWW.MADISONEVENINGLIONS.ORG. or e-mail to SAVESIGHTNIGHT@MADISONEVENINGLIONS.ORG. Or phone (608) 514-1780. “Box seat” tickets can be purchased directly from the Mallards - www.mallardsgroups.com. Password is savesight. This is our summer social event, so please plan on attending.

The Board has voted to go back to all noon meetings, on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, as before. For those of us who are not dawn people, this is a good thing. This schedule will actually begin on the third Tuesday of July, 7/16. It is expected that there will be the usual two noon meetings in August and thereafter. No excuses, now about balky alarm clocks - let's have good turnouts for our meetings.

Madison area Clubs are planning a charter bus trip to Lions Camp on Wed. July 17. If you haven't seen the Camp in the past few years you should go. It is our showcase project for the entire state, they keep adding and renewing facilities, and you will be prouder than ever to be a Lion when you've seen it in operation. Simply put, we (you) give kids an experience that they thought they could never have. (Yes, the usual swims, boats and campfires, but archery?, rope course?)

Our August Project will be “Stuff The Bus”, to provide needed school supplies for kids through the local schools. More on that later.

There is also the Youth Exchange Picnic on July 24. A chance to meet and mingle with kids from all over the world who are spending time visiting Wisconsin this summer. Those attending are asked to bring salad or dessert to pass. JODI BURMESTER is the reference Lion for this one.

Our last meeting featured another visit from Lion JIM KEMMETER. It's certainly good to see him again, and hopefully he can keep it up.

Speaker at the last meeting was Daven Etelson, from the Habitat Restores, at 5906 Odana Rd. and 208 Cottage Grove Rd. He told us about the stores, which feature donated and reused building materials, supplies and tools, with the profits going to support Habitat For Humanity, as they build basic housing for people who otherwise could not have a home of their own. They accept all kinds of stuff, provided it is in usable condition: cabinets, doors, hardware, lumber, plumbing and electrical fixtures, appliances, tile, carpet. A place to donate good stuff to benefit others, and also a place to pick up items for your own projects. Visit one of the stores to see what goes on.
