Next Meeting - Nov. 2 - The speaker will be Madison West Lion STEVE BARTLETT, who is a Board member for the Badger Honor Flight organization. These are the people who have sent two planeloads of Wisconsin WWII veterans to Washington D.C. to see the World War II Memorial, as a "thank you" to the Greatest Generation for their service. There are some great stories here, well worth hearing. JIM SCHUTZ, whose father-in-law (and Past District Governor from Beaver Dam) HAROLD NAGLER, went on the most recent flight, is the Program Host. JIM's son Alec was also on the flight, as a volunteer assisting the veterans.

It's Holiday Treat time. Get your orders to LINDA BERGREN, if you haven't already. She has to order within the next few days to have the product here by Thanksgiving.

At our last meeting, Pres. JIM opened the meeting, LINDA BERGREN led the song, and DALE MUELLER gave the invocation. We were happy to see DALE ST. JOHN back with us, accompanied by his wife BETTY. It was his Lion Birthday, and DALE always shows up when it's important.

LINDA BERGREN led the Birthday celebration, honoring our Lions for their years of service. ED NEESE led the list with 55 years, DALE MUELLER was next with 45, GLEN SCHAEFFER was on hand to celebrate his 42, DALE ST. JOHN has 41, WALT PRIDHAM has 29, and CHARLIE LIBERTY, who has been working the concession stand, 14. Your editor is proud to have sponsored two of the six - DALE MUELLER and WALT - we are a persistent bunch! Raffle winners of the gifts that were brought were JERRY HODDINOTT, TERRY SCHAR, PHIL INGWELL, and SCOTT GROVER.

TailTwister JERRY HODDINOTT reported that his efforts last month produced $133.00 for LCIF's Aid To Pakistan Fund. That's a great contribution from our loyal Lions who make it to the meetings. Once again, Lions reach out across the globe to help people in trouble!

Our Membership Director, CRAIG BUTLER, received the Membership Key Award for having sponsored new members for our Club. This is called "leading by example" if each of us could make the effort to get one or two people to come and see what Lions is all about, we'd have a lot more Lions. PDG and Club Secretary JOHN JENSON presented the award.

Children's' Vision Screening - There are two sessions coming up, and help is always needed, whether you have been trained on the equipment or not. There's always a need for administrative and crowd management assistance, until you can get current on the equipment. And to do that, there is a training session scheduled at Waunakee on Nov. 20, where you can get certified on the new screening devices. Call or e-mail JIM SCHUTZ to volunteer for this vital Lion project.

SCOTT GROVER, our Concession Stand chairman, needs workers for the Northwestern football game and for the Kohl Center basketball stand. This is an important fund-raiser and we need to boost our Club's participation in order to get more of the proceeds for our service work. Check the web site, or talk to SCOTT, to take part.

Judy Miyagawa from the Arthritis Foundation was our speaker, and as she spoke, it was apparent that arthritis is more than a few sore knees and swollen knuckles. It is part of a large family of related ailments and now affects 1 in every 5 people, which is projected to grow to 1 in 4 worldwide in 2030, and one in three in the US. She had a lot of suggestions on how to minimize the damage - exercise constantly, even if it's only marching your feet up and down while you're sitting, lose excess weight, which wears on your joints, maintain good posture, when picking something up bend your knees, not your back (ROSS ROYSTER would agree with that one), stretch only during and after you've exercised a bit to warm up, and do what you can to reduce stress in your life. "Keep moving" is that simple answer we all wish for, and certainly Judy shows how to do that! The Arthritis Foundation supports medical research and provides public information to help Prevention, Control and Cure of arthritis and related diseases.
